What to Expect from the Procedure
On the day of your hip replacement surgery, you'll arrive at our modern facility in Glasgow. You'll first meet with your surgical team and anaesthetist. After check-in, you'll be taken to a pre-operative area where your vital signs will be recorded, and you'll have the opportunity to discuss any last-minute questions or concerns with your team. Your anaesthetist will also explain the anesthesia process and ensure you are comfortable and prepared for the surgery ahead.
The surgery itself typically involves removing the damaged hip joint and replacing it with a prosthetic implant. This begins with an incision made over the hip area to access the joint. The damaged cartilage and bone are carefully removed, and the hip socket is prepared for the prosthetic implant. The prosthetic components, typically made of metal, ceramic, and plastic, are then inserted and securely fixed in place to replicate the function of a natural hip joint.
This procedure is performed under general anaesthesia or spinal anaesthetic and sedation.
Your surgical team will work diligently to ensure that the procedure goes smoothly. Once the prosthetic implant is properly positioned, the surgeon will meticulously close the incision using sutures or staples and apply a sterile dressing. We are committed to keeping you informed and comfortable throughout the entire procedure, ensuring you receive top-notch care. Post-surgery, you will be transferred to a recovery area where our team will closely monitor you as you wake from anesthesia. They will continue to manage your pain and ensure your comfort as you start the initial phase of your recovery.
